Up On The Roof – The Fairview Convention
June 11, 2009 > Reviews
Possibly Cheltenham’s most innovative and intimate summer music festival took place last Saturday, 6th June, amidst weather that largely relented, despite last weeks miserable forecast. The Fairview Convention can rightly be classed as innovative for various reasons, but for one in particular – it takes place on top of a roof. That roof belongs to the Kemble Brewery in Fairview (hence the name) and may be a far cry from the Savile Row rooftop where the Beatles’ infamous ‘rooftop gig’ took place in 1969 but, unlike that particular performance, this one - a) lasted more than 40 minutes and b) wasn’t stopped by the police halfway through. Much better I’d say.
Here’s what festival organisers Loz Apperly and Gordy Partridge said:
” It was a great day, great bands, great crowd and fantastic atmosphere. The day started ominously with dark clouds and a Met Office prediction of Heavy Rain. But thankfully that never happened. All the bands/acts that played were great – running order below
Jim Lockey – 8.50pm
Steve – 7.30pm
Papa Burgundy – 6.20pm
John Madden & Tom Mitchell – 5.30pm
Men Diamler – 4.40pm
JC’s Revenge 4.00pm
Colin Hartley 3.00pm
The Lighter Thieves – 2.20pm
Homesick Steve – 1.40pm
New Moon – 1.00pm
We haven’t had the final figures for money raised for The Gloucestershire County Air Ambulance yet but it’s in excess of £700 purely from donations. It’s the third year running for us now and we’re not planning on quitting yet – Special Thanks go to Andi, Mary & Chris and all the Staff at The Kemble
