Bloc - 12th-14th March - Butlins, Minehead

January 25, 2010

Bloc Weekend has quickly established a reputation as one of the country’s leading dance festivals and this year’s looks no exception.
Held over the weekend of 12th, 13th and 14th of March at the Butlins in Minehead, the line-up is looking stellar with a great mix of dance music legends and future superstars.

Salt N Pepa will be pushing it like it’s 1988 and the ever green Grandmaster Flash is sure to please with his old school hip hop.

Two of last year’s most impressive producers are bound to draw the crowds. Bristol’s Joker started the year  as a promising producer blending dub heavy rhythms with huge sounding Eighties electro riffs and ended  it remixing Simian Mobile Disco, one of the tunes of the year, and on the verge of superstardom. Joy Orbison’s rise has been even quicker. Hypnotic single Hyph Myngo was in most end-of-year ‘best of’ lists, an amazing blend of cut-up vocals and tribal drums- a kind of beguiling, future garage music. His other releases were equally impressive and he was quickly snapped up by the likes of Four Tet for remixing duties.

Chuck into the mix dubstep from the likes of Pinch, Skream and Benga, and Youngsta, techno superstars Derrick May, Luke Slater and Ellen Alien, hip-hop heavyweight Roots Manuva, the gentleman of garage, MJ Cole, and Warp wizards Autechre and Flying Lotus and you’ve got a serious, serious festival. Oh, and it’s got a swimming pool and you stay in chalets rather than a tent. See you at the top of the slide!

Monkeyfest - Festival Season lives on!

September 27, 2009

monkeyfest1Like an adrenaline shot to the heart of a dying festival season, Monkeyfest arrives to cure our turn of season woes with a day of live music at the Conservatory on the 10th of October. Featuring a superb line-up local artists and those from slightly further afield, this should rival any summer festival you may have attended/got drunk at over the past months. The line up features everybody you can see on the poster here, but please do take look at the Facebook page, as this is by far the best means of keeping up to date with this event. Also, if you haven’t done already, consider joining the group to get updates on all Monkey related events.
