Cocorosie – Trinity

May 13, 2010

If our world is one of contradictions, one moment wonder, the next ugly destruction, then Cocrosie are perhaps the band for modern times.

BLOC 2010: the season opener…

April 10, 2010

The thing about Bloc is, it’s not like the other festival. Firstly, it’s in March (so could perhaps claim to be the opening ceremony of the festival season). Then there’s its location- Butlins holiday camp in Minehead- complete with chalets, pubs and restaurants, amusement arcades, even a water park. It’s all under-cover and the music rarely stops.

2000 Trees ’09

August 18, 2009

rolo-tomassi3Positioned deep in the heart of the Cotswolds, just down the road from sleepy Withington (not Whittington, which ourselves and several other festival goers discovered the hard way!) 2000 Trees is small but perfectly formed ethical festival with a capacity of, you guessed it, 2000 (ish). It’s full of friendly familiar faces, which gives the festival a warm and welcoming spirit… despite the torrential rain!! (more…)

Up On The Roof – The Fairview Convention

June 11, 2009

fairview6Possibly Cheltenham’s most innovative and intimate summer music festival took place last Saturday, 6th June, amidst weather that largely relented, despite last weeks miserable forecast. The Fairview Convention can rightly be classed as innovative for various reasons, but for one in particular – it takes place on top of a roof. That roof belongs to the Kemble Brewery in Fairview (hence the name) and may be a far cry from the Savile Row rooftop where the Beatles’ infamous ‘rooftop gig’ took place in 1969 but, unlike that particular performance, this one -  a) lasted more than 40 minutes and b) wasn’t stopped by the police halfway through. Much better I’d say.

Here’s what festival organisers Loz Apperly and Gordy Partridge said:
It was a great day, great bands, great crowd and fantastic atmosphere. The day started ominously with dark clouds and a Met Office prediction of Heavy Rain. But thankfully that never happened. All the bands/acts that played were great  – running order below

Jim Lockey – 8.50pm
Steve – 7.30pm
Papa Burgundy – 6.20pm
John Madden & Tom Mitchell – 5.30pm
Men Diamler – 4.40pm
JC’s Revenge 4.00pm
Colin Hartley 3.00pm
The Lighter Thieves – 2.20pm
Homesick Steve – 1.40pm
New Moon – 1.00pm

We haven’t had the final figures for money raised for The Gloucestershire County Air Ambulance yet but it’s in excess of £700 purely from donations. It’s the third year running for us now and we’re not planning on quitting yet – Special Thanks go to Andi, Mary & Chris and all the Staff at The Kemble
